EPSRC and Scottish Water through the STREAM Industrial Doctorate Centre is funding EngD studentship in disinfection modeling for water distribution systems. Students of UK/EU are eligible for applying this studentship. Studentship covers tuition fees at the UK/EU rate only and provides a bursary of £19,000 per annum for the first two years and £20,000 for the second two years. The four year postgraduate programme leads to the award of an EngD degree including 6 months of taught courses. 

About Scholarship: The main research question will be to integrate knowledge of hydraulic flow patterns and chlorine reaction kinetics to actual disinfection levels. A pilot plant will be constructed with sufficient flexibility so that it can mimic the range of differences observed between contact tank designs identified during an initial survey. The plant will then be operated across a range of flow rates and chlorine doses to develop a disinfection model. The project is embedded in the STREAM programme.

STREAM is an Industrial Doctoral Centre (IDC) for the Water Sector funded through industry sponsors and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and aims to deliver the next generation of research leaders for the water sector. About Scholarship: The aim of the research is to understand the achievable information capacity limits of optical communication systems. In contrast to wireless communication channel or optical channels in free space, the optical channel in fibre is nonlinear. This PhD programme is focused on the need to quantify the fundamental capacity limits for the nonlinear channels carried over optical fibres, and to develop techniques to approach those limits so as to maximize the achievable channel capacity for the optical network. About Scholarship: The Junior Clinical Training Scholarship in farm animal provides an opportunity for new or recently qualified veterinary graduates to obtain high-quality, post-graduate training in farm animal medicine and surgery. The emphasis of this programme will be on gaining practical clinical experience all aspects of farm animal health and production, with particular emphasis on ruminant species.

The programme will allow the Scholar to identify specific fields of farm animal work in which to specialise, either in preparation for Senior Clinical Training Scholarship programmes (residencies), or in specialist private farm animal practice.  The Scholarship fulfils European College specialism intern requirements. The scholarship programme will cover:

(a)Case management of individual production animals, including emergency and critical care, surgical experience, anaesthesia, internal medicine and obstetrics.

(b)Training and practice in population medicine and herd health management, with an emphasis on evidence base medicine.

(c) Experience in teaching and communication.

(d) Basic tuition in research methods and scientific writing. Value: In the First Year: Partial financial assistance to the extent of 75% of the total Institutional Economic Cost (IEC) subject to a maximum of US $ Four Thousand (US$ 4,000) per annum in respect of NITs and other institutions covered under DASA Scheme with effect from the academic year 2011-2012 and where there is no increase in tuition fees for the academic year 2011-2012, the existing limit of 75% of IEC or US$ 3600, whichever is less would continue and could be made by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs, Government of India to the applicants selected for the SPDC. IEC includes Tuition fee, Hostel fee & other institutional charges. (Food charges are excluded).

(b) For Second and Subsequent Years: The parameters for continuation of scholarship to selected applicants for the second and subsequent years of study are as follows:

(i) Students securing 50% marks in aggregate in an academic year with clear pass marks in all subjects of study, would be eligible to receive the maximum admissible scholarship i.e. 75% of IEC or US$ Four Thousand only (US$ 4,000), whichever is less, in the following year of study.

(ii) Students who secure less than 50% marks in aggregate in an academic year and have obtained clear pass marks in all subjects of study, would be eligible to receive 90 % of the scholarship admissible under paragraph 7(b)(i) above, in the following year of study.

(iii) Student who could not secure clear pass marks in all subjects but have been promoted by the Institute/University to the next academic year would be eligible to receive 50% of the scholarship admissible under paragraph 7(b)(i) above in the following year of study.

(iv)Students who have not been promoted to the next academic year would not be eligible for grant of any further scholarship. 

Selection Criteria: Short-listing and selection process will be based on the performance of the candidate in the qualifying examination which decides the eligibility to apply for the Scholarship Scheme. The candidates selected, on the basis of

(i) Their performance in the qualifying examination and

(ii) Fulfillment of the eligibility criterion may be admitted to the scholarship scheme and shall thereupon be eligible for assistance as per the scheme.

-The UK Border Agency (UKBA) has rules for international students regarding minimum English language requirements. 

Scholarship Open for: International (non-EU) Students can apply 

Apply: Students will be automatically considered for a scholarship upon acceptance of an unconditional or conditional offer. 

Deadline: The closing date for applications to the MRes courses is mid-June 2013 and the closing date for the Medical Science MSc is 12th July 2013.
