Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for these fellowships:-

  1. Phd Candidates, postdoctoral scholars, and senior scientists and researchers are eligible to apply.
  2. Junior fellows are those applicants who have recently completed graduate-level training; senior fellows are well-established professionals with at least eight years of experience in the field and a proven publication record, or those who have their PhD in hand by the deadline date.

Junior Fellowship Application Procedures

The online application will require you to provide the following:

Documents as Microsoft Word or PDF files:-

  • Full curriculum vitae of education, professional experience, honors, awards, and publications
  • Proposal, not to exceed one thousand words, including:
  1. *A statement of interest and intent
  2. *Project proposal describing why The Metropolitan Museum of Art is uniquely suited to your fellowship objectives, what you expect to accomplish during the fellowship period, and how you will utilize the Museum’s resources and collections to achieve your goals
  • Official undergraduate and graduate transcripts
  • For Paper Conservation applicants only:
  • Two treatment reports and associated documentation with explanations justifying the reason for treatment and decisions entering each stage of treatment (not to exceed 750 words per object)

Contact information for three recommenders (at least one academic and one professional), none of whom may be current Metropolitan Museum of Art staff. Once you have submitted your recommenders’ names, titles, and email addresses, they will automatically be emailed instructions for uploading their letters online. Please note that each letter must include the recommender’s complete title and contact information. We encourage recommenders to submit letters in English.

Senior Fellowship Application Procedures

  • Senior fellowships are intended for well-established professionals with at least eight years of experience in the field and a proven publication record, or those who have their Phd in hand by the deadline date.
  • Metropolitan Museum of Art welcomes preliminary inquiries from senior applicants regarding the suitability of the project proposal to the departmental areas of research.

The Online application will require you to provide the following:-

  • Project proposal including:
  • A statement, not to exceed one thousand words, describing what you expect to accomplish during the fellowship period and how you will utilize the Museum’s resources and collections to achieve your objectives
  • Tentative schedule of work to be accomplished during the fellowship period and proposed starting and ending dates
  • Contact information for three recommenders (at least one academic and one professional), none of whom may be current Metropolitan Museum of Art staff. Once you have submitted your recommenders’ names, titles, and email addresses, they will automatically be emailed instructions for uploading their letters online. Please note that each letter must include the recommender’s complete title and contact information. We encourage recommenders to submit letters in English.

Once all the information has been received by the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the assessment of the submitted documents is complete, you will be informed about your selection in the same.
