WASCAL Competence Center offers Senior Research Position in Social Impact of Climate Change for African Students in Burkina Faso 2012
About Scholarship: The WASCAL project management wishes to appoint an experienced scholar with a strong theoretical and empirical background in the study of socio?ecological systems (e.g. in political ecology, NRM, vulnerability studies) and population dynamics (e.g. in demography, mobility, rural livelihoods, land use change). The senior researcher will act as leader of the team “Social impact of climate change” at the WASCAL Competence Center in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso where he/she will support an interdisciplinary group of six teams.

Eligibility:
• Doctoral degree in social anthropology, development sociology, social geography, or political sciences
• A minimum of 7 years post?doctoral work experience
• A compelling publication record • Specific interest in international research preferably with work experience in West Africa
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and French
• Following skills are required: qualitative research methods and experience in interdisciplinary work; other skills are of advantage: quantitative research methods, GIS skills, socio?ecological modeling
• Excellent organizational and time management skills including project planning and evaluation
• Ability and willingness to work in an interdisciplinary, multicultural environment
• High degree of initiative and self motivation
