The South Carolina State Fair is offering $300,000 in college scholarships to students from across the state. The organization announced Monday it’s taking applications for the 2012 Ride of Your Life Scholarship program.
The awards will go to 50 students. Each will receive $6,000, which will be distributed in $1,500 increments for up to four years.
“The fair worked hard to establish strong relationships with our community and its leaders this past year and we saw the payoff during the run of the 2011 fair,” said South Carolina State Fair General Manager Gary Goodman in a statement. “We are elated to continue this tradition of giving back to the community by awarding these scholarships to deserving students in our state.”
This is the 15th year the fair has offered college scholarships. The money comes from admissions, ride tickets, and food sales made during the fair’s run each October.
Fair organizers say any senior in high school in the state is eligible to apply to be a State Fair Scholar. Prospective scholars will be judged on overall performance and involvement, need, communications skills and an aptitude for completion of the application.
Completed applications must be postmarked by March 16, 2012. You can find the applications on the State Fair Website.
